I had always wanted to visit this ground as I new it was very old and may not be there for much longer, so on winning a golf trophy my Grandad decided to take me to a game there. The game that we choose was Portmouth v Mansfield Town. We arrived there and I could not believe my eyes on my first ever glimpse of the ground (Fratton end). Instead of parking up my Grandad and I drove around to the iconic mock tudor facade reception area which would be where we entered the ground later. After having some photos taken we drove back round to the Fratton end and parked our car on a huge section of unused land oposite the stand. We then proceeded to walk all the way around the ground as I wanted to get a glimpse of the old alley ways and murals behind the stands. Running behind one of the stands was a large mural of graffitied cartoons, one of which was a Minion sporting a Pompey kit. Our seats were in the South stand which was unusual in that the roof dipped down in front of us so that we could not see the top of the stand over the other side of the pitch and could not see part of the ball from a goal kick. The game ended 1:1 but thanks to the portsmouth goal I managed to fulfil something that I had always wanted in celebrating a home goal at Fratton Park. I also managed to here and join in with there club song 'Play up Pompey'.
My second visit to Fratton Park was with my Uncle whilst we were on Holiday in Bournemouth. I was still as excited on arrival as I had been on my first visit. Every time that I visit a football ground I always ask in reception if there is anything that I can see or have a look at inside the ground and so I asked this question while at Fratton Park. Surely enough a gentelman took me through the back of the South Stand and out into the ground where he showed us around and let me have a picture in the Mangers seat. I can't wait for my next visit to Fratton Park.
